Ice Holes

Hacked Deck.jpg

Ice Holes is a sound installation. Compositions made from recordings of ice melting in an Arctic lake were cut onto new vinyl records which are played on a hacked record deck. The vintage ‘Dansette’ plays at speeds controlled by various data sets. Ice Holes uses Arctic sea ice data recorded by the Scott Polar Research Institute to control the speed of the revolving record. The soundtrack slows down and speeds up according to the climate data.
